Organized by RCGNTN and Syndicate, UNIFORM was invited to take part in ‘Make Local Your Focal’ — a cultural bonanza featuring a lineup of local artists, musicians, and all-round creative stalwarts. Showcasing works that express our take on local identity and culture, we created a video installation that was accompanied by a mini-exhibition. Couched around the idea of our non-existent ‘byline’ — something synonymous with a person’s identity — our works deal with the as-yet premature state of local culture, one that is still at its infancy, in flux, and very much swayed by global forces. Expressing this through the use our fashion videos, with themes that run in tandem with the above, we also wanted to convey the ideas of tradition and a kind of purity through the use of conventional wooden pegs, fishing lines, and white cloth.
