This New-York-based series of photographs by Travis Huggett typifies everyday New Yorkers on their bus commute around town. The emotionless faces of the people in the fluorescent, over-lit bus interiors, in contrast to the dark streets, perfectly captures the last, dying hours of their days. These portraits evokes a sense of calm and still, in contrast to the usual hectic, busy city scenes and lifestyles that we’ve come to associate with New York. The series could also prove to be controversial, as Huggett takes on the role of voyeur — most subjects were unaware that they were being photographed. In doing so, he captures the candidness and vulnerability of each person, in each moment: be it tired faces aching for home after a long day or work; curious, challenging gazes; or people simply lost in their own worlds or fast asleep, Huggett’s documentation portrays the urban human landscape at its most diverse and real.
