It’s hard to ignore the childlike quality that Paris-based self-taught designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus, brings to the Parisian fashion scene. His eponymous label, Jacquemus, has a strong social media presence, particularly on Instagram, where the designer shares his whimsical musings in a triptych format. His playful approach of shapes and sizes — one-legged pants, tuxedo shirts that form dresses, barefoot models and childlike paper masks over their faces — continually pushes the boundaries of the fashion industry. When design is distilled to its purest form, it is a nod to innocence. “It’s simply about playful times, when children just don’t care about how they dress themselves.” For far too long, fashion has been taking itself too seriously, and Jacquemus certainly puts a smile on our faces.
